  1. My first suggestion is a given, which I'm surprised wasn't included in your original design. A "portable gaming platform" is meant for travel- and that means we may be at a hotel, or on vacation to a place we cannot get an Ethernet cable, or any other place where "physical" attachment is simply... not an option. Remember, we need portable.

    Suggestion 1:
A simple built-in (Tx:54 Mbps / Rx:54 Mbps N Compatible) strength wifi adapter is manufactured for about $17.00 USD per unit- And is sold to consumers as a USB adapter for both desktop and laptop computers to consumers for roughly $25-$30 USD. Built into the machine, you could actively raise the cost of the STEAM Machine to the consumer by a full $50.00 USD- an extra $20- simply because it's built in- and the software and OS would come pre-installed and ready for use.
This would add a small amount of additional programming into the OS to accept the new hardware, yes, and again... raise the cost of production in the way of giving the OS programmer another task- But in the long run, it would only be required for the code to be written once. It would be a bit more costly in the development stage...
    ~Why Do This?~
The end result would make the device %100 more functional in any place, and could be the #1 selling point to a consumer who knows that Wi-Fi is their only option when traveling. Those like myself, for example, who would love everything about this product, but turn it down due to the lack of built-in Wi-Fi support.

~A "Halfway" Resolution to Solve this issue and meet consumer needs?~
Another option is to add the code and program to accept a Wi-Fi reciever, but not include it. The company responsible for production would also manufacture, advertise, and present a USB Wi-fi reciever on the market to pair with the product, either as a standalone or part of a bundle. This option would be more costly in the end for the company responsible for the production and sales of the STEAM machine due to separation of hardware in the manufacturing line - but in no ways would limit their sales and profit if the product is well received by consumers. In fact, if the product sold well along with the STEAM machine, would result in higher profit despite the cost of manufacturing separate hardware for the device. As an example, this can be seen plainly by many "Tablet PCs" selling today that have a touchscreen keyboard- but also sell an optional physical keyboard attachment, where their sales resulted in more profit from the addon.

Suggestion 2: Always allow for USB Mouse and Keyboard as an option, and manufacture a carrying case for the STEAM machine with a compartment and straps for the keyboard- Standard size. The pocket for the mouse is simple, and another small compartment for safe storage of physical DVD and CD roms for optional software that could be installed after-party.
A good producer will always keep in mind some companies, like the fella's who make the CS Storm gaming mouse- will in fact produce available software for your product at no cost to you, just so their 3rd party product will function on yours. This will drive sales from real PC gamers who desire your product, but reject the controller.

    ~Why?~
This is the Steam Machine we're talking about. Not simply another competitor for Microsoft, Sony, or Nintendo, the audience interested in this product will be made up in majority by gamers who prefer the mouse and keyboard. Many will adopt the controller- but there is a reason they are PC gamers. The studies show fully well that a controller doesn't give the same responses as a mouse & keyboard, which is why many players will desire a game, but refuse to purchase it due to it being functional at best/or designed with the use of a controller in mind.

    1. Hello, I would like to thank you for your response.

First of all the device has a build in Wi-Fi receiver like almost every electronic device nowadays. but I don’t know why anyone would charge you $50 for that I think maybe $20 extra, I mean I bought it for $17.

Second, I don't know where I have put it or if I even did it but the device will have 2 USB 3.0 slots so will support keyboard and mouse or an external DVD drive.

third, when you purchase the device you get an special made keyboard or a special made steam controller which you can connect in a port on the underside of the device.
you can only choose one and have to buy the other one if you want it.

I am sorry if I didn't write it down anywhere and that led to confusion I will add it to the page, thank you.

English isn’t my first language, I am sorry for any mistakes.

  2. This "Vapor" will not be well received by consumers in the final result if it's not keeping PC gamers in mind- Theres a reason they, and we, choose PC over home consoles. We scrutinize performance, graphics, and control like no other audience- and put the research into our every purchase and hardware upgrade. Without keeping the best interest of the consumer audience in mind, the product would surely fail.

That said... The internet, the modding community, and open operating systems mean that people will find ways to exploit, mod, hack, and circumvent the conventional operations and firmware.
If the device does not include a physical CD drive, and Restore-Disk/DVD allowing the consumer to restore the unit to factory conditions should something go wrong- the consumers will have a field day attacking the producers of the product. It's wise to remember, this is a computer at it's heart- and without some sort of restore option, PC users of all kind will not accept it. If, to save room and cost of production the device doesn't have a CD drive and restore disk- a cheap bootable, 5 gig flash drive could be produced with each unit, containing the specific key to it's matching unit is possible to include in sale.

Hope I gave ya' a couple worthwhile suggestions to think about, and much more about the nuances of manufacturing, sales, and marketability. This conceptual product could fail before it ever leaves a factory without the proper forethought into it's software, let alone the hardware involved. I highly urge you to conceptualize deeper into the ideas of HOW it will do what it does, before you worry about the hardware involved with DOING what it does.

I wish you the best, and good luck on all of your future endeavors!

  3. Hello, I would like to thank you for your response.

As a PC-gamer myself, I really have PC-gamers in mind.
I don't know what hackers would want to do with the device.
    I don’t have the space to include a DVD-drive.

Thank you for your effort to response.
